Favus? Framboesia? Yaws?

For immigration to Botswana, we need to be medically examined and have a doctor certify that we are "not suffering from favus, framboesia or yaws, leprosy, scabies, syphilis, trachoma, tuberculosis or any other disease prescribed in terms of section 7 (c,) of the Immigration Act."

I had to look several of these things up. To the left, you see yaws. Yaws is related to framboesia. Below that is favus.

Phlebitis?

My sister, Hope, is doing really well. Some tenderness and irritation around the sutures but she's able to get out and around a bit.

I, on the other hand, have developed phlebitis in my little vein thingy in my foot. Normally, the bubbly vein goes flat when I raise my leg above the heart. On Sunday, it stopped going flat. In fact, it's kind of turgid. I called my vascular doc in Bellingham today. The nurse on duty said it's a phlebitis, not likely to be clot-related, probably from some sort of impact. I don't remember banging my foot at all. Anyway, it's freaky. I'm calling tomorrow to see about getting an appointment with my vascular doc for as soon as I get back from Canada. I'm doing the compression stocking and even took an ibuprofen, for inflammation. Gotta get rid of this thing. Not looking forward to getting back on a plane like this. Will be taking vitamin E, vitamin C, fish oil, copper and folic acid over the next week to try to heal it up pre-flight.

Montreal

I'm currently in the airport in Montreal, waiting for my flight to Fredericton, New Brunswick. Long story, will write more later. Basically, I'm going to be staying with my sister while she recovers from surgery. The plans came together suddenly on Sunday afternoon. Rob is still in Ferndale with his folks.

I have a tiny headache that doesn't seem to want to go away. Probably sinuses acting up from the cabin pressure, eh?

Movie stars

I made Simpsons characters of Rob & I at the Simpsons movie website.

We're driving to Woodinville tonight, staying with the Buerers. Saturday, I get my hair cut. Sunday, we'll play on the worship team at our home church, Cross of Christ, then drive back to Bellingham for the grandparents' anniversary party.

Getting ready

I'm scrabbling about, dealing with odds and ends. Jim told me about a luggage shipping service, Luggage Free. I'm seeing if it's worth renewing our AAA membership. It looks like it isn't but we should get our International Driving Permit through them before we cancel our membership. Tripped over an international cell phone service, Planetfone, but their website doesn't seem to be working. Just read articles in The Week on an anti-fat injection, how trouble smelling may indicate Alzheimer's risk, that yawning actually happens to cool the brain, the Chateau St Michelle 2006 Eroica is a top U.S. Riesling and the best websites to buy wine (Appellationamerica, Brownderby and Chambersstwine).

How to pray for Bibleless peoples

- by name (Isaiah 43:1)
- by location (1 Timothy 2:1,2)
- in expectation (Matthew 21:22)
- for pre-contact openness to spiritual truth (Acts 17:27)
- for workers to be called and sent (Matthew 9:38, Acts 16:10)
- for good initial contact with the people (Galatians 4:14)
- for good ongoing relationships and involvement by the community (2 Corinthians 8:3,4)
- for the completion of the task to the glory of God (John 17:4)
- that they may believe (Hebrews 4:2)
- that they may have the Bible in their own language (Acts 2)
- that they may read or hear the translated Scriptures (Revelations 1:3)
- that indigenous churches will use the Scriptures (2 Timothy 3:16, Romans 16:26)

The week in review

Monday - got a medical exam and radiological report (to see if we had tuberculosis) done in Burlington, WA for Namibian immigration.
Tuesday - went to see Dr. Richard Jones, vascular surgeon in Bellingham, about the bubbly vein (which turned out to just be a varicose vein, probably recently exacerbated by my cross-Atlantic flight) on my foot.

- verified address in Namibia to which to send the documents that I collected on Monday.
Wednesday - helped June run errands.
- mailed documents to Namibia.
Thursday - funny thing… I don't remember Thursday, except going to dinner at Boundary Bay Brewery with Rob and going to see 2% Majesty in the evening.
Friday - worked on my address book.
Saturday - went to do shopping with June, Connie and Katharine, dinner with the grandparents in the evening.
Sunday - visited Zion Lutheran Church in Birch Bay, WA for the first time.

By the way, if you're on Facebook and want to track me that way, just search for "Eshinee" and ask me to add you as a friend, saying that you're a Dancing Sni reader. I'm the only Eshinee there, I'm fairly certain of that.
